I am an experienced amateur player of the baroque oboe. I play with great satisfaction the Stanesby Sr model by Mathieu Loux. I use his reeds and bocals which work very well with the oboe. My teacher confirms this.

I have been playing for 3 years now on the oboe you made for me. I really enjoyed playing it from the start and I have been taking lessons with Nele Vertommen since 2021.
I had the opportunity to play a little bit of everything on the instrument, to explore the different sound possibilities, different fingerings and types of reeds. I was also able to compare it to other students' instruments, and I must say that your instrument is exceptional in every way.
It has great ease of sound emission, and even the lowest and highest registers are easy to produce and sound good. The intonation of the instrument is impeccable, and requires very few embouchure corrections.
Its sound is open and warm, with lots of harmonics, but without being shouty. The wood seems to be very resonant by nature, I feel the instrument vibrate in my hands.
The instrument is equally at home in different keys. With B flat and E flat, it sounds rather melancholic, with this quality of certain notes being more veiled and soft than others.
It is exceptional in keys with F, C, G sharp. The high F sharp 123 56 is particularly beautiful and in tune, especially compared to other instruments.
Compared to other instruments, it is quite straightforward, and some notes stand out more than others. It has this rather "uneven" baroque and vocal quality, which I personally like a lot, but which would not necessarily suit everyone, some prefer a duller/softer instrument, but which sounds more uniform.
It's a truly magnificent instrument that suits me well, and other oboist students and friends who were able to try it also told me that it was an excellent instrument.
I hope everything is going well for you in your new workshop, and I thank you very much for this exceptional instrument.
Yours sincerely
Thierry Clette
Mathieu's oboe d'amore is one of the best I've tried. As soon as I picked it up, it wanted to sing. It has a rich resonant tone, easy response and fine intonation.
